Over 60 women accused Cosby of various forms of sexual misconduct, with incidents dating back to the mid-1960s. Public awareness grew after comedian Hannibal Buress highlighted these accusations in 2014, leading to widespread media coverage and the revocation of honors and ties with Cosby.

Although most allegations fell outside the statute of limitations, Cosby faced criminal charges in one case and numerous civil lawsuits. In 2018, he was found guilty of aggravated indecent assault and sentenced to three to ten years in prison. However, in 2021, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned the conviction due to a prior agreement with a prosecutor, and Cosby was released from prison. Subsequent legal challenges continued, including a civil suit in 2022, where Cosby was ordered to pay $500,000 in damages. In 2023, nine additional women filed sexual assault suits against him.
